Geo Bennett - Guitars, Background Vox

Return to Main Bio Page

Born in a working class section of Pittsburgh called Greenfield, guitarist Geo Bennett had an upbringing unlike that of many of his peers. Proficient in three languages by the age of 5, there wasn't much that local schooling had to offer.

His parents decided to send him off to continue his learning overseas, at the Ville Siren School for Boys in Sweden. It was in this cold weather climate that he discovered his passion for ice hockey. Unfortunately, his webbed feet and poor eyesight conspired to keep him from playing the game he had grown to love. It was during these dark times, unable to skate, stickhandle, and crosscheck with the other Nordic lads, that a new passion was thrust upon him by a school counselor tired of hearing him whine.

The electric guitar was all the rage at this time, with the music of countless six string legends filling the halls of the school day and night. Gary Richrath, Randy Rhoads, Ace Frehley, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Moore, Neal Schon, and Mike Gavigan all cast their spell on the now pudgy youngster. Minutes upon minutes of dilligent practice, once or twice a week, gave Geo the chops and confidence to return home to Pittsburgh to chase his dream of becoming a pretty good guitar player who writes songs too.

Well, after years of toughing it out on the local scene with bands like Strutter, Purple Heart, and Stone Romeo, it's safe to say that this "round mound of sound" has finally reached that goal. Better than average guitar work screams at you from the upcoming CD by The Truth, and guess who's playing it? Proof positive that if you put in a little effort and surround yourself with talented people, dreams can come true.

As much as Geo loves playing in The Truth, and spending time with his bandmates, he has plenty of other interests as well. He spends much of his "down time" with his lovely girlfriend Katie and the 26 cats they've rescued from local animal shelters. Along the lines of self-improvement, Geo has recently joined a gym, which he goes to no less than 6 days a week in a very serious effort to get into some sort of shape other than "pear". His current day job as a mid-management whipping boy for a national restaurant chain is growing more tiresome by the minute, and Geo is actively pursuing employment elsewhere. (Any job offers can be e-mailed to geob@truthrock.com. Seriously. No joke.) In addition to all of this, Geo still finds time to attend monthly meetings at the local chapter of the environmentalist group Greenpeace. It's not that he agrees with the things they stand for, but rather "...they just seem to have the best punch and cookies of all the non-profit organizations." What a guy...

When asked what the secret behind this particular band and CD was, Geo simply responded with his philosophy, or credo if you have to have a credo, on music in general...Turn the guitar up all the way, try to write enjoyable, memorable songs, and then turn the guitar up some more! Words to live by. Peace.
